Celtic Roots

When considering the health of one’s cultural roots, it can often be helpful to take a look at where we’re at in order to help ensure its strength for the generations to come.

A snapshot of tonight’s concert reveals that each of these performers happens to be under the age of 40, yet all have accomplished great things within that relatively short period of time, not the least of which is the mastery of their musical discipline.

Hanneke Cassel has worked with the upper echelons of musical royalty and calls Alasdair Fraser and Buddy MacMaster great influences on her playing.

That’s evident in her tune selection too.

Anita MacDonald and musical partner Ben Miller ensure the combination of fiddle and border pipes continues, with intricate tune selections matched by Gaelic airs sung by Anita.

The Celtic roots reach across the sea, too. Paul McKenna is here from Scotland, flying solo tonight to share his own songs and melodies passed down over many generations.

It’ll be music suitable for St. Peter himself tonight!
