John MacDougall's Tunebook

Starting in the early 1970s, fiddler and composer John MacDougall, from Inverness County, would compose 20-50 tunes a day, amassing more than 38,000 in the those four decades.

He was very protective of these tunes, believing they came to him from deceased players and so only a handful have ever been reproduced in print.

Tonight we will unveil just a few of his compositions in a special show comprised mainly of fellow Cape Breton musicians who have played with John or are directly connected to him.

A small selection of tunes from the vault will be performed tonight on fiddle, pipes, guitar, piano and more.
